Getting to know: City of Victoria

What’s happening with the real estate market in one of our local municipalities

As the capital city of BC, Victoria receives international attention for its beautiful environment and idyllic neighbourhoods.

Dirk VanderWal is a local REALTOR®, a Past Chair of the Victoria Real Estate Board, and has supported many buyers and sellers with their properties in the City of Victoria.

Says VanderWal, “Victoria offers an incredible diversity of home types and the greatest density of amenities in the Capital Region, and in many ways typifes the best of the west coast lifestyle. Quiet, walkable residential neighborhoods like Fairfield exist just minutes from the vibrant energy of downtown.

Locals can walk to catch a hockey or baseball game, music festival, enjoy world-class dining, parks, beaches, and boutique shopping. Successive councils have sought in many ways to model the district’s most urban municipality after European cities where car ownership is not a given. As aspects of this are coming to fruition, homebuyers who value lifestyle choice and flexibility tend to favour Victoria, and sellers tend to find consistent levels of demand.”

Condominiums offer an opportunity to live within the City of Victoria’s downtown core. There is a good variety of condos to choose from, with condos starting at under $200,000, up to over $2 million.

Townhomes in the area start in the $600,000 range.

Single family homes are also a great option - with many listed at under $1 million.
