19th ANNUAL COMMERCIAL BUILDING AWARDS
Sponsored by the Commercial Division of the Victoria Real Estate Board and the Times Colonist
The Commercial Division of the Victoria Real Estate Board today announced the winners of its 19th Annual Commercial Building Awards competition.
To be eligible, all projects had to have been completed between June 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. Awards were presented at a luncheon on November 30, 2010 at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort.
Competition judges, who are selected from Victoria’s business community, look at the overall exterior of each building or development project and how it fits into the surrounding area. They base their final decisions on projects that are sensitive to the environment, are aesthetically pleasing and answer a specific developmental need within the community. This year’s judges were: Steve Barber, Heritage Planner, City of Victoria; former Victoria Mayor Bob Cross; appraiser Steffen Hagen, D.R. Coell and Associates; and commercial REALTORS® Griffin Lewis, DTZ Barnicke Victoria Ltd. and Clive Townley, Pemberton Holmes Ltd.
A list of the Excellence and Merit Award winners is attached. As well, the Times Colonist Community Award was presented to the Victoria General Hospital Emergency Department; the Judges Choice Award for overall excellence to the University of Victoria’s First Peoples House; and, the Victoria Real Estate Board’s Green Award to Local Government House, 525 Government Street.
The Commercial Building Awards competition, now in its 19th year, continues to promote advancement of excellence in commercial construction and design within the Capital Regional District.
