Promoting "Green Values"
The Issue
In an age of global warming and heightened environmental awareness, it is incumbent on all organizations and individuals to take whatever actions they can to minimize the impact of their activities on the environment.
VREB Position
2008 VREB President, Tony Joe, determined that "going green" would be the theme of his presidency. This initiative was, and still is, in keeping with one of the Quality of Life principles adopted by the Board which is ‘preserving the environment’. Whenever possible, the Board will accordingly promote green values in all its business activities and as part of the real estate transaction.
Recent Activities
In 2010 the VREB became the first real estate board in Canada to allow for the posting of home energy ratings on its MLS® system. This project was undertaken in cooperation with the provincial Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and the crown utility, BC Hydro, to help build a database for measuring the impact of green initiatives on the sale value of single family homes.
Ratification
Position ratified by the VREB Directors, January 2011.
