Crown Land and Housing
The Issue
Key factors contributing to the significant increases in property
values in recent years throughout Greater Victoria area are high
demand and a lack of supply of new land for housing.
VREB Position
More crown land should be made available for housing on a leased
basis so that tomorrow’s generation will be able to afford
to buy a home.
The Minister of Housing should establish a Land/Housing Supply
Task Force to examine how more land and housing could be made available
to new and young British Columbians on an attractive/affordable
basis.
News Release: October 3, 2006 - REALTORS® of Greater Victoria
Call for More Land to be Made Available for Housing.
Update
No action has been taken on this recommendation.
